About the Institution
Studio work is the spine of the course. Each semester a design studio sets a project of increasing complexity, moving from a small residence to housing, institutional buildings and eventually an urban-scale thesis, and students are assessed in juries where practising architects review drawings and models alongside the faculty. Construction and structures courses run in parallel so that drawings are tested against real materials and loads, and workshops in carpentry, masonry and model making support that work.
Students complete a period of professional training in an architect's office, a requirement of the Council of Architecture, and many use the dense architectural practice of Bengaluru for that placement. Study tours, documentation of heritage settlements and participation in national student architecture events form part of the calendar. Graduates register with the Council of Architecture before practising.
