History
UNB’s Fredericton campus was established in 1785 and Saint John Campus was founded in 1964. History of this university began with petition presented to Governor Thomas Carleton in Dec 1785. It was started as academy. By 1829, the academy became King’s College and the building now known as Sir Howard Douglas Hall was officially opened. In 1859, the act creating a secular provincial university of the UNB Canada was passed. By 1931, a Memorial Hall, a modern library, and the Forestry and Geology Building were added.

Teaching at UNB combines the history and tradition of education with a focus on how knowledge can impact the future. Faculty work hard to ensure students gain the skills and experience needed to stand out in the job market. Entrepreneurship is promoted throughout all disciplines, where students are shown how to create opportunities for themselves and others.
Research excellence
UNB conducts 70 per cent of publicly funded research within the province, attracting CAD 39 million in external research funding each year. It has over 20 research institutes and centres, and 65 major research labs. Research partners include NASA, and technology developed at UNB has been used by large-scale services such as Google Maps. UNB is also a global leader in MRI technology.

New Graduate Program: Master of Engineering Leadership in Design Innovation (MELDI)
The Master of Engineering Leadership in Design Innovation (MELDI) is an exciting new graduate program from UNB Engineering at the University of New Brunswick. This course is designed to prepare engineers for advancement in a rapidly growing field.
Going further than traditional MEng, this new program provides a unique blend of comprehensive training and advanced technical knowledge. That's alongside leadership skills, change management training and experiential learning in design innovation.
New engineering diploma introduced
A new diploma in engineering fundamentals has been introduced at the university's Saint John campus. This entry-level program teaches the fundamentals of engineering including design, mathematics and communication. Students who meet the requirements for earning the diploma in engineering foundations in their discipline will be eligible to complete the final two years of their engineering program at UNB Fredericton. The program starts in September 2021.
