Eligibility

Admission to the DM programme requires a relevant postgraduate medical degree in the parent specialty, since DM is a super-specialisation pursued after a doctor has already completed their MD or MS. Selection is based on the rank secured in the super-specialty entrance examination, with seats offered through centralised counselling conducted by the concerned authority rather than a separate institutional process. Because the eligible parent specialties, the minimum qualifying marks and the counselling schedule are set afresh for every admission cycle, applicants should rely on the current year's official notification rather than an earlier one.

About DM

The DM programme at AIIMS Jodhpur is a super-specialisation medical degree that trains a doctor who already holds a postgraduate qualification to become a specialist in a narrower, more advanced branch of medicine. Training is built almost entirely around supervised clinical practice: managing complex cases in the specialty ward, running and interpreting specialised investigations, and taking part in academic sessions, case discussions and a research project that forms part of the requirements for the degree. Because entrants already hold a postgraduate medical qualification, the pace and clinical responsibility expected from the very start are considerably higher than in an entry-level course. The programme suits postgraduate doctors who have already decided on a super-specialty and are ready for a demanding, hospital-based residency built around independent decision-making under supervision. On completion, graduates typically practise as super-specialists in tertiary-care hospitals, take up academic and research positions, or lead specialised units within larger departments. The intake sanctioned for the DM programme in any one session, together with the category-wise division of those seats, comes from AIIMS Jodhpur's own admission notice for that cycle; because the notice is reissued every session, only the most recently published version should be treated as current.
