National Eligibility Cum Entrance Examination Post Graduate

The examination is a computer-based test made up of objective, multiple-choice questions covering the subjects of the MBBS curriculum across the pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical phases, including anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology, microbiology, forensic medicine, community medicine, medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, dermatology, psychiatry, anaesthesia and radiodiagnosis. Candidates are ranked on the basis of their scores, subject to the qualifying percentile notified for each category, and the resulting merit list feeds the centralised counselling rounds where seats are allotted by choice and rank. Seats covered include government and private medical colleges, deemed universities, central institutions and armed forces medical services seats as notified. The pattern, marking scheme, duration, percentile cut-offs and counselling schedule are announced each year in the official information bulletin.
