If you're looking for a solid B.Tech option in Hyderabad with a rank below 5k, Anurag University for Computer Science and Engineering is a good pick. The curriculum is well-structured and includes practical labs that help in gaining real-world skills. The college has decent internship opportunities, and many students get placed in top companies like Amazon and TCS with good packages. The hostel facilities are also quite good, and the campus environment is friendly and supportive.

On what basis do you get admission in IIIT Hyderabad?

To get admission into regular B.Tech at IIIT Hyderabad, you need to score minimum 250 marks in JEE Mains. You also need a good percentage in 12th boards, and more than 85 marks in Physics, Chemistry and Maths. The subject-wise cutoff is usually 85 or more for all the three. As for dual degree admissions, you need to clear UGEE and a subsequent interview. Make sure to check the 12th marks requirement for the same, if any. The college also intakes a limited number of dual degree students through lateral admissions. IIIT Hyderabad does not offer any reservation, and it is quite difficult to get into.

Why should I apply for both IIIT Bangalore and IIIT Hyderabad?

IIIT Bangalore and IIIT Hyderabad are top institutions. IIIT Hyderabad competes with the top IITs. The coding culture over there is top notch and the competitive spirit among peers makes you work very hard. The faculty is hardworking and inspires students to become good professionals. Students are encouraged to create their own successful startups like SETU,Crypsis, Synovel etc. IIIT H intakes students purely on merit basis, there is no provision of reservation during admissions. Sir P.J. Narayanan, the professor and current Director of IIIT Hyderabad is known for his work in Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, and Parallel Computing on the GPU. You will learn a lot under his guidance. IIIT Bangalore has a great coding culture and is known for its academics. Its students participate in the ACM-ICPC finals. Both IIIT Hyderabad and IIIT Bangalore are really good institutions, and you should apply to both so that you get the opportunity to study in either of them.

Should I apply for the 2nd round with a percentile of 99.233rd at IIIT Hyderabad?

No, I don’t think it’s wise to apply for the 2nd round with a percentile of 99.233rd at IIIT Hyderabad. Based on the cutoffs, the minimum percentile required to get IIIT Hyderabad CSE is 99.78 whereas for ECE is 98.87. Even if you end up getting ECE in the subsequent rounds you will end up losing a lot of money. Moreover, paying a sum of 20k just for a single round is not justified especially when your chances are slim. Additionally, only half of the fee is considered an advance tuition fee. So you will lose a lot of money whether you get admission or not. It’s better to try another IIIT or a NIT than IIIT Hyderabad. But if you are adamant, you can surely try your luck!

What is the lateral entry for IIIT Hyderabad?

Lateral Admission means getting admission in the mid of the session from another college. Many students pursuing BE or BTech in other colleges get lateral admission into IIIT Hyderabad in the second year. For this, they need to go through a separate admission process. This process includes a written entrance exam followed by an interview. Moreover, Lateral Entry students are offered a very limited variety of streams like CSD: B.Tech + M.S. in Computer Science and Engineering. ECD: B.Tech + M.S. in Electronics and Communication Engineering. Also, it’s important to note that Lateral Entry gets admission in the second year only. So irrespective of which year you belonged to, you will have to study again from the second year. This mode of admission gives a second chance to those who couldn’t clear the exam initially.

How many students apply for IIIT Hyderabad Lateral Entry Programme?

One of my close friends applied for the lateral entry program at IIIT Hyderabad in 2018 and shared the experience of the entire process. Her examination center had students from Raipur and Bhilai regions. The total number of students in the hall was 70. On average, there were 50 centers, and considering each center had 100 students, the total number of students who appeared for the IIIT Hyderabad Lateral Entry Programme was around 5000. In her examination center, only 45 students were shortlisted for interview, out of which only 37 students actually attended the interview.

IIIT Hyderabad has a 2nd-year lateral entry program for which the eligibility criteria is 2-year B.Tech program, i.e. one year back. The entire process comprises 2 stages Written Examination: To prepare for this you need to study all topics in your all 4 semesters properly. The Lateral Entry Examination has 60 MCQ followed by 4 subjective Questions, but remember there is no fixed pattern. Interview: Students who clear the written exam appear for the interview which is very unpredictable. Usually, you are interviewed on the basis of your resume and your interest. International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad, commonly known as IIIT Hyderabad, is the first IIIT founded under a public-private partnership model in 1998. It is approved by AICTE and recognised with an ‘A++’ grade by NAAC. IIIT Hyderabad is located on a 66-acre campus on Gachibowli road, also known as Old Bombay Highway. The campus is centrally located and well connected by all means of transport.

The institute is surrounded by several academic and research institutions. These include Hyderabad Central University, Indian School of Business (ISB), TCS-CMC, Indian Immunologicals and Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Development Banking (JNIDB). The campus is minutes away from HiTech City Center and Lingampally.

On-Campus Facilities

On-campus facilities include a State Bank of India branch, an ATM machine, a stationary shop and canteens. The campus has 24-hour security at the hostels, main gate and all academic and administrative buildings.

There is only one entry and exit point, so safety and security are never compromised. Evenings on campus are a pleasant sight with well-lit streets and common areas surrounded by mature trees and lush greenery.

Computer Laboratories

The institute has well-equipped, air-conditioned computer laboratories with the latest hardware and software allocated to students batch-wise. The average PC-to-student ratio is 1:2.

All computers are part of an intranet with a 1Gbps backbone, which connects all buildings including the hostels round the clock. Researchers have 24-hour access to the computational facilities. Students administer their own computer systems. Research centers provide specialized, high-end equipment as needed in research and development projects.

Student Workspaces and Teaching Labs

New workspaces have been set up for students where they can work in a quiet space. These spaces have been designed with modern facilities such as ergonomic chairs and desks, discussion rooms and white boards. They can accommodate up to 200 students at any given time.

There are two new Teaching Labs equipped with state-of-the-art teaching aids including projectors, TV screens and theatre-style seating. Each lab can accommodate up to 100 students at any given time.

High-Performance Computing (HPC) Service

The institute has a High-Performance Computing (HPC) service to deliver sustainable and reliable computing resources for its research community. This service provides campus researchers with cutting-edge computing infrastructure.

Researchers use this infrastructure to address scientific, application and engineering problems. It helps solve challenges in Computer Vision, Machine/Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing and Bioinformatics. It also helps investigate chemical and biological processes such as protein folding.

Ada HPC Cluster

The HPC cluster facility is named "Ada" after Ada Lovelace, the first ever computer programmer. The cluster consists of 92 nodes.

The nodes are interconnected through Gigabit and 4X QDR Infiniband. The cluster provides about 14 TFLOPS of peak computing power.
