Duolingo Syllabus
- Environment Setup (5 minutes): Upload your ID, take a photo, complete a 360° room scan, and run a system check. You must agree to strict rules, such as no earphones and no one else in the room.
- Adaptive Test (45 minutes): This is the main scored section. Questions become harder if you answer correctly and easier if you get them wrong. Question types include:
- Read and select: Identify real English words from made-up words. 15-18 questions, 5 seconds each.
- Identify the idea: Choose the main idea after reading or listening. 12 questions, 7-8 minutes.
- Interactive writing: Respond to a written prompt, then a follow-up prompt. 2 questions, 3-5 minutes.
- Read, then speak: Read a short passage and speak about it. 1 question, 90 seconds.
- Speak about the photo: Describe an image verbally. 1 question, 30-90 seconds.
- Writing and Speaking Samples (10 minutes): This section is not scored. Your responses are shared with universities exactly as you record them.
