Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test

The examination is a computer-based objective paper. For undergraduate entry it draws on school-level physics, chemistry and mathematics together with English and general aptitude or general knowledge, while postgraduate and management-stream papers focus on the aptitude and subject areas relevant to those courses. Candidates apply online, choose a campus preference and a test city, and appear at a centre allotted to them. Ranks from the test are used for counselling to seats at Indian Maritime University campuses in Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, Kochi and Navi Mumbai, and at institutes affiliated to the university. Candidates selected for seafaring courses must additionally clear a medical fitness examination against the standards laid down for merchant navy entrants, and sponsorship by a shipping company may matter for certain streams.
