For the undergraduate programmes candidates are expected to have passed or to be appearing in class 12 or an equivalent examination with mathematics and English as subjects, since both degrees are mathematics intensive from the beginning. For the postgraduate programmes a relevant bachelor degree is required, with the accepted disciplines differing by course, so a statistics or mathematics background is expected for some and an economics, computer science or engineering background for others. Candidates awaiting final results may usually apply subject to producing proof of completion. Any minimum marks, subject combinations, age condition or attempt limit are set out in the official Indian Statistical Institute prospectus for that year, and candidates should confirm them there.
