Joint Entrance Examination for Polytechnics

The paper is objective and multiple-choice, set at school level and built around mathematics and science, with the exact combination of subjects depending on the diploma group the candidate applies to; engineering groups are tested on mathematics, physics and chemistry, while other groups may substitute biology, agriculture or general knowledge. Candidates apply online, sit the paper at an allotted centre, and receive a rank that is used in the state's centralised counselling. Seats are then allotted at government, aided and private polytechnic institutions across the state through choice filling and document verification, subject to the state's domicile and reservation rules. Diploma courses filled through this route commonly include civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics, computer and allied engineering branches, and some states include pharmacy, agriculture and management diplomas as separate groups.
