Where it is conducted, the paper is an objective test of general management aptitude rather than of prior management knowledge, covering verbal ability and reading comprehension, quantitative ability and data interpretation, logical reasoning and general awareness. Candidates register through the university's admission portal, sit the paper, and are then usually taken through further stages such as a group discussion or personal interview before a final merit list is prepared for the programme concerned. The seats filled are in management courses run by the university's departments, institutes and, where applicable, affiliated colleges. In parallel, many management seats at institutions in Mumbai are filled through the state's centralised admission process using the state entrance test or accepted national scores, so applicants commonly pursue both routes.
