Overview

The paper is objective and multiple-choice throughout and is built on the class 11 and class 12 syllabus. It covers physics and chemistry, together with mathematics for candidates applying to the mainstream engineering branches or biology for those applying to the biology-linked programmes such as biotechnology, and adds sections on aptitude and on English. Because the question standard is school-level while the time available per question is short, speed and accuracy matter as much as depth. Results are declared as ranks, after which admission runs through the university's counselling, where candidates in rank order select the campus, branch and category of seat, followed by fee payment and document verification. The number of questions in each section, the duration, the slot booking rules and the counselling schedule are published in the VIT admission brochure each year.
