Programme Overview

The Post Graduate Programme in Sustainable Management (PGPSM) is based on the idea that businesses are part of society and cannot function separately from it. The programme aims to create management professionals who understand economic, social, and environmental issues together.

The curriculum covers general management courses along with specialised subjects. These include systems thinking, social entrepreneurship, externalities, lifecycle management, stakeholder management, and public policy.

Why Sustainable Management Matters

Businesses today are increasingly driven by sustainability concerns. Surveys by consulting and media houses such as Forbes and Fortune indicate that no business can survive in the future without incorporating sustainability principles into its operations.

In the past, 'sustainability' was often limited to environmental and social concerns. In recent years, it has become clear that businesses cannot separate themselves from society and the environment. An unstable social and environmental system can hurt a business's profit by making operations more expensive.

The only way to deal with the negative environmental and social impact of business is to turn these threats into opportunities for improvement. The PGPSM helps future managers understand the changing nature of sustainability challenges and develop integrated solutions.

Programme Highlights

Sustainability is an emerging field, and IIM Lucknow is among the few institutes in India to have started a Sustainable Management Programme. The curriculum evolves continuously to match new knowledge in the field.

The programme has modern infrastructure, including audio-video enabled classrooms, a library with an extensive book collection, and access to industries and corporate leaders.

The academic routine includes lectures, case discussions, exercises, seminars, role plays, and management games. These methods help students understand theoretical concepts through application-oriented learning.
