Why are IIIT's such as IIIT-Hyderabad, IIIT-Delhi and IIIT-Allahabad so under-rated?

First of all, to clear any misconceptions, IIITH, IIITD and IIITA are not connected in any manner. Out of the three, only IIIT Allahabad is a member of the actual collective known as the IIITs. The common public doesn’t know much about these prestigious colleges. Consequently, they aren’t valued as much as the IITs and NITs. Here are the reasons why- All these institutes offer very few branches, which are mostly IT related. They aren’t as old as some of the IITs and NITs. They were set up even after IIT Guwahati, which is the 7th IIT in terms of establishment year. They don’t possess big campuses and a vast infrastructure. But those who belong to the field of engineering (especially IT), give high ratings to these institutions, especially IIIT Hyderabad. These three offer research oriented academics. They even offer UG research programs. IIIT Hyderabad, Delhi and Allahabad are performing really well in their respective fields. They should be given much more attention.

How can I explain to my mum that it's better to take IIIT Delhi or IIIT Allahabad than taking admission in IIT Tirupati, Bhilai, Palakkad or Dharwad? She is very insistent on me getting that "IIT TAG"

IIIT Allahabad has good placement figures, and all the major companies visit its campus each year. Not only that, the college has a strong alumni network and brand name. Try to tell you mom that the ‘IIT’ tag does not hold much value for 3rd gen. IITs. These colleges have just sprouted, and it will take some time for them to create a strong presence. All the major Product and Service based companies like Apple, Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn, Qualcomm, Walmart, Flipkart, Amazon, Samsung, Intel, Goldman Sachs, Deloitte, Atlasian, Sprinklr, Zomato, Oracle, Paytm, Airtel, Swiggy, ICICI Bank, Citi Bank, etc. visit the campus during placement season. The average package for IT is more than 24 LPA, and the median package is more than 21 LPA. You’ll receive top coding culture and senior mentoring at IIITA, even better than some well known IITs. IIIT Allahabad is better than top NITs and 2nd gen. IITs. Its placements are even better than IIT Gandhinagar. Brand name matters, but other factors need to be checked as well. According to me, IIIT Allahabad is the best college for those who successfully clear JEE Mains.

Are IIIT Delhi, IIIT Hyderabad, IIIT Allahabad and IIIT Pune even related to each other?

Here is the answer to your query- The first ‘I’ in IIIT Hyderabad stands for ‘International’. It is a private ICT Research University that was founded in 1998. The first ‘I’ in IIIT Delhi stands for ‘Indrasprastha’. It is a government institute and comes under the Delhi Government. The first ‘I’ of IIIT Allahabad stands for ‘Indian’. IIITA and IIIT Pune come under the collective of institutes that are actually the IIITs, as in, the Indian Institutes of Information Technology. IIIT Allahabad is one of the 5 IIITs that were formed by MoE, and it has the tag ‘Institute of National Importance’. IIIT Pune is among the other 20 IIITs that were formed under the PPP (Public Private Partnership) model. It is also an Institute of National Importance. IIIT Hyderabad is one of the best in India for CS. The CS department of IIITH boasts of top-notch placements, a good number of entrants into GSoC, and high participation rates in Competitive Programming. Only IIIT Allahabad and IIIT Pune belong to the collective of Indian Institutes of Information Technology. The other institutions mentioned by you are different from this group.

Which has the best IT and the highest package for placements: IIIT Allahabad or Motilal Nehru NIT (MNNIT) Allahabad? What is the average package of each till 2015 placements?

Here are a few parameters to compare B.Tech IT at both these colleges- Faculty- The professors of IT at both the colleges are highly renowned, and always ready to help their students. Infrastructure- IIIT Allahabad is new, so it has better infrastructure. But MNNIT has state-of-the-art labs and facilities. Some of these facilities are- CIR (Center for Interdisciplinary Research), Design Centre, STPI (s/w Technology park of India), etc. Campus and Hostel Life- MNNIT has a much better campus and hostel life. Alumni- The alumni of MNNIT Allahabad are present in every part of the globe. Being a much older institute, it has a higher number of notable alumni in reputed positions around the world. Coding Culture- IIIT Allahabad has a better coding culture, and this has been proven by the performance of its students in ACM-ICPC, GSOC, etc. MNNIT certainly does not lag far behind, thanks to the computer club classes by final year students. Curriculum- The curriculum of IIITA is centered around Computer Science, right from the first year itself. MNNIT delivers few programming courses in the first year, but the syllabus mainly begins from second year onwards. Placements- Amazon, Flipkart ,eBay, Snapdeal, Cisco, Citrix, LinkedIn, Visa, etc. visit the IT department of MNNIT Allahabad. In 2023, the average package for B.Tech IT was 24.43 LPA at MNNIT (the highest CTC was 82.63 LPA). The placement stats for IIITA are better, mainly because of lesser intake. During 2023, the average package for B.Tech IT at IIITA was 34.66 LPA (and the highest CTC was INR 82.50 LPA). Google, Code Nation, etc. visit the department with job offers. To conclude, both are excellent for B.Tech IT and you can opt for either of them.

If I am interested in Programming should I choose ECE at IIIT Allahabad or IIIT Bangalore, if yes which one should I prefer IIIT A or B? (Of course I am not getting CSE in good college)

Here is some information to assist you in choice-making- IIT Dhanbad Mechanical is the best option among the three. This college has a rich legacy and a strong brand value. Apart from that, it offers good placements with brands like Tata visiting the campus for recruitment purposes. But if you have an interest in Electrical, you can opt for IIT Tirupati. Unlike before, the college is now functioning from its permanent campus. The permanent campus is destined to house 12,500 students. It is under construction in phases, but it already houses 1500+ students at present. Therefore, IIT Dhanbad Mechanical is the best choice. But if Electrical interests you, opt for IIT Tirupati Electrical.

How is IIIT Allahabad for an M.Tech?

I did my M.Tech in Microelectronics from IIIT Allahabad. Our college has top infrastructure, hostels, internet facilities, fests, etc. But I would like to enlighten you about the lab facilities at IIITA. IIITA has one of the best labs for fabrication. It is equipped with all the basic machines. The Phd. students and lab staff are very helpful, and will provide you all the necessary guidance. ALD (Atomic Layer Deposition) is installed in the lab. In IIITA, you’ll operate the lab machines by yourself. This includes washing used funnels, cleaning the oxidation chamber, and cleaning the sputtering machine after finishing your tasks. Mandatory lab timings are from 9am to 5 pm, but you can access the labs at any time. The professor in charge of the fabrication lab, Dr. B.R. Singh has 40+ years of experience in fabrication. Other than fabrication, all the softwares for Analog and Digital Design are available. The same are headed over by different faculty members. The field of NanoElectronics is headed by Dr. Sitangshu Bhattacharya. If you are interested in M.Tech Microelectronics, I can assure you that IIIT Allahabad is the right place for you.
