Detailed Selection Criteria

JMI follows a program-specific admission process across its various faculties. Admission routes differ depending on the course. While many UG and PG programs are admitted through JMI’s own entrance examinations, some programs accept scores from national-level examinations such as JEE Main, NEET-UG, CUET, NATA, and CLAT, wherever specified by the university.

As a Minority Institution under Article 30(1) of the Indian Constitution, JMI reserves 30% seats for Muslim minority candidates and an additional 10% exclusively for Muslim women in each program. These reservations apply across all courses at JMI.

Admission Update:
  • UG Programs: Application window was February 20 to March 25, 2026. Entrance tests conducted April 26 to June 5, 2026. Result lists and selection lists being released July 2026.
  • B.Tech: Application portal opens approximately 10 days after JEE Main 2026 results. First selection list expected July 2026. Final spot admissions through September 2026.
  • CUET-Based Programs: Registration via NTA CUET portal. JMI application at @admission.jmi.ac.in. Counselling expected August 2026 after CUET results.

JMI Admission FAQs

Ques. Does JMI accept CUET scores for all UG programs?

Ans. No. JMI accepts CUET UG scores for only 8 specific UG programs, primarily BA Hons in languages (Hindi, Urdu, Turkish, French, Spanish, Korean) and B.Sc Hons Applied Mathematics. All other UG programs at JMI require the JMI own entrance test. B.Tech requires JEE Main and B.Arch requires NATA.

Ques. Is CLAT accepted for BA LLB admission at JMI?

Ans. No. JMI Faculty of Law does not accept CLAT scores. Admission to the 5-year BA LLB (Hons) program is through JMI’s own Common Entrance Test (CET), which was conducted on June 4, 2026. The program has 120 seats split equally between the general fee and self-financed fee categories.

Ques. What is the Muslim minority reservation at JMI?

Ans. JMI is a Minority Institution under Article 30(1) of the Constitution. It reserves 30% of seats for Muslim minority candidates and an additional 10% of seats exclusively for Muslim women in every program. The remaining seats are open to all communities on merit. JMI does not implement the 10% EWS reservation as it is exempt from that provision.

Ques. Does JMI B.Tech admission go through JoSAA counselling?

Ans. No. JMI is not part of JoSAA counselling. B.Tech admission at JMI uses the university’s own multi-round counselling process at admission.jmi.ac.in. Candidates must separately apply at the JMI portal after JEE Main results. A valid JEE Main Paper 1 score is mandatory.

Ques. What is the application fee for JMI admission 2026?

Ans. The application fee is INR 1,000 for programs in Engineering, Law, Management, Architecture, and Dentistry. It is INR 700 for all other faculties including Humanities, Sciences, Fine Arts, and Education. Fees are to be paid online at admission.jmi.ac.in.

Ques. What JEE Main rank is required for JMI B.Tech Computer Science Engineering?

Ans. In 2025, the Round 1 closing rank for the General category in CSE at JMI was 17,752. By Round 2, the closing rank extended to 42,668. Muslim minority category candidates were admitted at relatively higher ranks. For 2026, the cutoff will depend on JEE Main 2026 scores and total applicants. The official cutoff will be published on admission.jmi.ac.in with each selection list.

Ques. Can final year graduation students apply for JMI PG programs?

Ans. Yes. Students appearing in their final year bachelor’s degree examination are eligible to apply for JMI PG programs 2026. However, admission is provisional. The final marksheet showing at least 50% aggregate must be submitted by the date specified in the admission notice. Failure to meet the eligibility marks results in cancellation of the provisional admission.

Ques. Is there a management quota or direct admission at JMI?

Ans. No. Jamia Millia Islamia is a Central Government University. It does not offer a management quota, NRI quota, or any form of direct paid admission. All seats are allocated through the entrance test merit list and the university’s reservation policy. No seat can be obtained by paying a capitation fee.

Ques. How does the internal (Jamia school) quota work?

Ans. JMI reserves 5% of seats in most programs for candidates who have studied in Jamia’s own schools (covering nursery through Class 12) or who are wards of JMI employees. These candidates must still appear in the relevant entrance test. Seats are allotted from the internal quota pool based on merit within that category. Candidates must submit valid school or employment proof at the time of document verification.

Ques. What documents are needed at the time of JMI admission document verification?

Ans. Candidates must bring original and self-attested copies of: Class 10 certificate, Class 12 marksheet and certificate, graduation marksheets (for PG), JEE Main/CUET/GATE scorecard (where applicable), JMI entrance test admit card, category certificate (Muslim minority, SC/ST, PwD, J&K domicile, Jamia internal as applicable), recent passport photographs, and Aadhaar card. The document list for each program is published on admission.jmi.ac.in with the selection list.
