Eastern Michigan University

Established in 1849 as the Michigan State Normal School, Eastern Michigan University (EMU) has evolved into a prominent public research institution nestled in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Renowned for its rich educational heritage, EMU stands as a pioneering force in American higher education, being the fourth normal school established in the United States and the first outside New England. Over the years, it has continually expanded its academic offerings, transitioning to Michigan State Normal College in 1899 and ultimately achieving university status in 1959.
