Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University History
The university started thanks to the efforts of the Embry-Riddle Company, founded by T. Higbee Embry, John Paul Riddle, and Kitty Hawk in 1925. In Spring 1926, the university began as the Embry-Riddle School of Aviation. It was closed after a merger with the Aviation Corporation (AVCO), before re-opening in Miami in 1939.
The university, in collaboration with the University of Miami, provided flight training under the Civilian Pilot Training Program to increase the number of qualified pilots in the US Air Force, just before the start of World War II.
