Charles XI's regency government signed the documents that laid the foundation of the university. On Jan 28, 1668, the university started with a great ceremony in Lund Cathedral in the King's name. Back then, it began with just 14 professors and 80 students and was given the name Regia Academia Carolina. By the end of the 20th century, the university had enrolled more than 30K students. Over the years, the university continued to grow and expand into one of the best universities in Europe.
