History
Riga Technical University was established on Oct 14, 1862 after receiving permission for founding by the Russian Tsar Alexander II in May 1861. The higher school was had later become a state owned institution and named as Riga Polytechnic Institute in 1896. By the mid-1970s, Riga Technical Institute became the largest higher education institution in Latvia. During March 1990, the institute was renamed to be Riga Technical University and in 1991 it started educating and training international students and also provided the staff as well students to get more opportunities in work and study.
