Founded in 1860, Wheaton College has deep roots tracing back to its predecessor, the Illinois Institute, which was established in 1853. As a private interdenominational Christian liberal arts college, Wheaton holds accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). It is affiliated with organizations such as Illinois Mentor, the Consortium of Liberal Arts Colleges (CLAC), and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU).
