What Is UCEED?

It runs as a two-stage process: a Prelims exam testing design aptitude through drawing and general knowledge questions, followed by a Mains stage involving studio tests, a portfolio review, and a personal interview for shortlisted candidates.

What Is CEED?

CEED (Common Entrance Exam for Design) is conducted by IIT Bombay for admission to postgraduate Master of Design (M.Des) programmes at various IITs and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). It requires a Bachelor's degree in any discipline and tests design aptitude at a more advanced conceptual level than UCEED, since candidates are typically graduates rather than 12th-pass students.

Which Exam Should You Prioritise?

If you are targeting a design career through the IIT ecosystem, prioritise UCEED for undergraduate admission or CEED if you already hold a Bachelor's degree and want a Master's in Design. If NID specifically is your goal, its own DAT exam is compulsory and cannot be substituted with UCEED or CEED scores. Many serious design aspirants prepare for both UCEED and NID DAT simultaneously, since the core skills tested overlap significantly.
