The CBSE Class 12th Compartment Exam was held on July 15, 2025. This exam gives a second chance to students who did not clear one or two subjects in the main board examination.

What is Essential Repeat in CBSE Class 12 Result?
CBSE introduced the term 'Essential Repeat' in 2020 to replace the term 'Fail'. The change was made because CBSE felt the word 'Fail' was negative and demotivating for students.
Only the name has changed. The rules for 'Essential Repeat' are the same as the old rules for 'Fail'.
Essential Repeat in CBSE Class 12 Result
An 'Essential Repeat' in the CBSE Class 12 Result means a student has failed in 3 or more subjects in the board exams. Students in this category are not eligible to appear for the compartment exams conducted by CBSE.
- Students placed in the 'Essential Repeat' category must reappear for the Class 12 board exams the following year.
- If a student passed the practical exams but got an essential repeat for theory papers, they need to reappear for theory papers only.
- Practical marks will be carried forward for preparing the final result.

Percentage Calculator for CBSE Class 12
As per the official notice from CBSE, no aggregate marks, division, or distinction will be awarded to students in their CBSE Class 12 marksheet. The marksheet will contain subject-wise theory, practical/internal assessment, and total marks, along with subject-wise grades.
The final percentage is calculated considering the main 5 or best 5 subjects (in case of students having additional subjects). Add the marks obtained in each subject and divide it by the total marks for all subjects. To convert into percentage, multiply the answer by 100.
For example, a student scored the following marks in CBSE Class 12 Result 2025 in the main 5 subjects:
