Overview

The process runs in successive rounds after the main national counselling has finished. Eligible candidates register on the board's portal, pay the prescribed processing fee, and fill and lock a list of institute and branch choices in order of preference. Seats are then allotted on the basis of the candidate's rank in the national joint entrance examination, the category claimed, the choices submitted and the seats still available. A candidate who accepts an allotment pays the seat acceptance fee and completes online or physical document verification, and may retain the seat as a freeze or continue in later rounds through float or slide options, as permitted by the rules notified for that year. The process covers vacant seats in centrally funded technical institutions and specified supernumerary quotas. Reservation, defence and person with disability provisions are applied according to government norms stated in the business rules for the cycle.
