To take part, a candidate must have appeared in and qualified the national joint entrance examination at the main level for that year and must hold a valid rank in it, since allotment is made strictly from that rank list. The candidate must also satisfy the academic conditions prescribed for admission to the participating institutions, which include passing Class 12 or an equivalent examination with the science subject combination required for engineering, and any minimum performance in the qualifying examination laid down by the admitting authority. Candidates claiming a supernumerary or reserved category seat must produce the certificates prescribed for that category during verification.
