The Joint CSIR-UGC Test is a national-level examination conducted by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in collaboration with the University Grants Commission (UGC). It is designed for Indian students seeking Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and eligibility for Lectureship (NET) in the fields of science and technology. The exam assesses the eligibility of candidates for research and teaching positions in Indian universities and colleges.
It is held twice a year and covers subjects such as Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Earth Sciences.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must hold a Master's degree or equivalent in the relevant science subject with at least 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PwD and women candidates). Those appearing for the qualifying examination can also apply provisionally. There is no upper age limit for JRF, but for Lectureship (NET), the candidate must be below 30 years of age (relaxation applicable for reserved categories).
