Founded in 1875, Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) is a public-funded research university in Indiana County. As of Fall 2023, there were 9,254 students out of which 7,079 were undergraduate students and 1,914 graduate students along with 494 international students from 64 countries. The student body of the university comprises 61% female students and 39% male students. It was originally set up as the Indiana Normal School in 1871 under the Normal School Act passed by the General Assembly.
