NC A&T State University History
The university began as the Agricultural and Mechanical College for the Colored Race in 1891 after an act by the North Carolina General Assembly. It was the second land-grant institution in the US for people of color. The first classes took place with 37 students in 1893. The college moved to Greensboro in the same year. In 1915, it was renamed as the Agricultural and Technical College of North Carolina. In 1925, it offered its first UG degree.
