History
University of Bologna was first established in 1088 and was later granted charter status by Holy Roman Emperor Frederick in 1158. Bettisia Gozzadini was one of first women in history to obtain law degree at university in 1237 and she taught the university in 1239. By the year 1971 University of Bologna established the Faculty of Letters and Arts and it was the first degree course of such type to be introduced at the university.
