The University of Canberra supports and shapes the ACT region through our research, over 100,000 alumni, policy and advocacy, and community engagement. We began as the Canberra College of Advanced Education (CCAE) in 1967 and became a public university in 1990, growing our research capability and capacity alongside our teaching.

UC research has played a significant role in Australia’s anti-smoking campaigns, shaped our national cultural institutions through heritage collation and management approaches, contributed to the ACT’s education legislation and teaching, and has helped make our waterways cleaner, safer and more sustainable.

UC was founded to serve this region: this place and its people. We are deeply honoured to have been gifted this purpose.

Today, our research covers a range of topics and disciplines, including education, environment, culture, creativity, technology, government and across the spectrum of health. Through academic excellence and deep collaborations, our research is locally focused and globally relevant.

Drawing on our history of applied and industry connected research and the vision of our Connected decadal strategy, our vision for research at the University of Canberra is to amplify research impact even more. We aspire to be recognised locally and globally for the impact our research has on people and place.

UC is home to experts across a range of fields, as well as laboratories, specialised equipment and software that enable us to undertake meaningful research that makes an impact on local to global scales.

UC is the place where people can make their mark on our region, students, and the world in roles within and alongside the realm of academia.

UC aspires to be recognised locally and globally for the impact our research has on people and place. Our Research Plan for 2024-2028 aims to amplify our impact and contributions even more.
