For the CS branch, here’s my order of preference-

IIIT Hyderabad>>> NIT Trichy/Warangal/Surathkal >>IIIT Allahabad>IIIT Bangalore>IIIT Delhi >> other NITs.

Apart from NIT Trichy, Warangal and Surathkal, IIIT Bangalore is better than all the other NITs for CS branch. IIIT Bangalore delivers excellent academics and top-notch placements in the CS/IT domain.  Another thing is that IIIT Bangalore only focuses on CSE and ECE branches, unlike the NITs that deliver education in several engineering disciplines.

Here are the 2024 placement statistics for IIIT Bangalore (as of July 2024):

Parameters

iM.Tech CSE

iM.Tech ECE

Highest CTC

INR 65 LPA

INR 65 LPA

Average CTC

INR 33.4 LPA

INR 36.2 LPA

Median CTC

INR 28.3 LPA

INR 36.4 LPA

Top Recruiters- ADDVERB, BOSCH, Amazon, Nvidia, Salesforce, and others.

The coding culture of IIIT Bangalore includes friendly competition and collaborative learning. Coding competitions, hackathons, and collaborative projects are frequently organized by the authorities for the students.

Here are some clubs at IIIT Bangalore-

    • CAMP (Club for Algorithms, Math and Programming) is a club of IIIT Bangalore that works to strengthen the culture of competitive programming on campus.
    • Lean In Club- Lean In Club promotes the participation of women in computing, open source, research, competitive coding and tech.
    • GDSC- Google Developer Student Clubs.
    • MOSFIT Club- MOSFIT Club works to bridge the gap between the curriculum and industry requirements in the field of VLSI.

  • The Robotics Club ‘Enigma’

Unless you get admission at the top NITs (Trichy/Warangal/Surathkal), I would suggest you to choose IIIT Bangalore over the NITs, especially for a CSE degree.

IIIT Bangalore CSE is an outstanding choice in every aspect. It is way better than SVNIT CSE. But there is a drawback to IIITB. It only offers a 5 year integrated program (B.Tech + M.Tech). I have a few friends at IIIT Bangalore, and according to them, a B.Tech is always better than an iM.Tech.

Regardless, IIITB CSE is way ahead. You should definitely consider it, especially if the high fee is not a concern for you.

NITW and IIIT Bangalore, both have an advantage in one aspect or the other-

  • Research Culture- IIIT Bangalore has a better research culture than NITW.
  • Coding Culture- Both have an equally good coding culture.
  • Campus life and Extracurriculars- NITW is far ahead of IIITB in terms of campus life and extracurricular facilities.
  • Peer Group- Both the institutes offer equally good peers. IIIT Bangalore does not follow any reservation system during admissions.
  • Infrastructure- IIITB has a better and well maintained infrastructure.
  • Location- Bangalore is a better location. It offers immense exposure and plenty of opportunities.
  • Affordability and faculty- NIT Warangal is much more affordable, but the faculty at IIITB is better.
  • Placements- Both B.Tech at NITW and iMTech at IIITB record equally good placements with nearly equal median salaries.

Both the colleges are good for your CS degree. You should choose between them based on your personal preferences.

Here is some information on this subject-

PESU offers good placements for B.Tech CS. But because of a very large batch size, its average package comes down. The top 100 B.Tech CS students of PESU easily grab a package of 10 LPA+.

But IIITB is a better choice. It offers better faculty, peer group, placements, etc. Though PESU has a large campus, a lot of it is under construction.

I would recommend you choose iMtech at IIIT Bangalore, especially if you are not planning for a Masters’ abroad.

IIIT Bangalore is the right choice for your M.Tech. Here are some reasons why-

  1. IIITB is the second best IIIT.
  2. It has great infrastructure, faculty, and placements.
  3. It is semi government, semi private.
  4. It is located in Bangalore. The silicon city is home to most of the IT companies in India.
  5. The environment of IIITB is excellent.
  6. Its student crowd is of top quality. Students leave 2nd and 3rd gen IITs for IIIT Bangalore.
  7. The average package offered to IIIT Bangalore students is nearly five times more than that offered to Symbiosis students.

I would recommend you choose IIIT Bangalore for your M.Tech as it is far superior to Symbiosis for Engineering courses.

Here is some information to assist you in choice-making-

IIT Dhanbad Mechanical is the best option among the three. This college has a rich legacy and a strong brand value. Apart from that, it offers good placements with brands like Tata visiting the campus for recruitment purposes.

But if you have an interest in Electrical, you can opt for IIT Tirupati. Unlike before, the college is now functioning from its permanent campus. The permanent campus is destined to house 12,500 students. It is under construction in phases, but it already houses 1500+ students at present.

Therefore, IIT Dhanbad Mechanical is the best choice. But if Electrical interests you, opt for IIT Tirupati Electrical.

Based on my research, here is some relevant information to assist you-

IIIT Bangalore offers much better infrastructure, research facilities, and placement opportunities as compared to NIT Surathkal. However, the fee structure at IIIT Bangalore is also on the higher side. Most of the top brands visit both these campuses for placements.

As of June 2023, the highest CTC for M.Tech ECE stood at 38 LPA, at IIIT Bangalore. The average CTC stood at 26.2 LPA, and the median CTC stood at 22.5 LPA.

Though both are top colleges, I would recommend you choose IIIT Bangalore for M.Tech ECE. Especially, if the fee is not an issue for you.

I am mentioning below the recent cutoffs for both JEE Mains and GATE, for IIIT Bangalore.

Here are the 2023 JEE Mains and GATE cutoffs for IIIT Bangalore-

Course

JEE Mains Rank (Round 2)

GATE Marks (Round 4)

B.Tech + M.Tech CSE

8,000

B.Tech + M.Tech ECE

10,500

M.Tech CSE

480

M.Tech ECE

430

IIIT Bangalore does not follow any form of reservation during admissions. Thus, admissions are purely based on the JEE Mains/GATE performance of a candidate.

Prepare well for your entrance in order to get admission into IIIT Bangalore.

Based on my research, I will present some points to support the opinion that I will put by the end of my answer-

  • Faculty- The faculty of IIIT Delhi is considered to be one of the best in India. The college offers top-quality classroom teaching. But even IIITB has good professors.
  • Curriculum- IIITD offers the most relevant and flexible curriculum for B.Tech CSE. They will teach you core CS from the first year itself. Even IIITB teaches core CS from the first year, but it started with iM.Tech quite recently, in 2017. IIITB doesn’t offer B.Tech courses.
  • Funding and perks- As IIIT Delhi is a state government-run institute, it gets funding and other perks.
  • Infrastructure and Internet facilities- Being a new institute, IIIT Delhi has better infrastructure and Internet facilities.

IIIT Bangalore is a better choice for an M.Tech CS, based on curriculum, placements, etc. But as far as UG studies are concerned, B.Tech CS at IIIT Delhi is better than iM.Tech CS at IIIT Bangalore.

Students from both these institutes will have a bias for their respective colleges. If you ask IIIT Bangalore students, they will recommend you choose their college. The same is the case for NIT Calicut students.

Reach out to one senior from both these colleges who belongs to the CSE department. Ask them about the infrastructure, faculty, curriculum, placements, and other important aspects of their respective department. Don’t ask an NITC student about IIITB, and vice versa. This is because they might have misconceptions about the other institute.

I would recommend IIIT Bangalore. The institute has top-notch faculty, placements, research facilities, campus quality, and hostels. Moreover, it doesn’t follow any reservation criteria for admissions, unlike NITC.

Try to approach seniors from both these colleges, and research a bit on the IIIT Bangalore CSE department. Also, IIIT Bangalore offers iM.Tech in CSE, and not B.Tech.
